OurDream AI is the better choice if you want a genuinely usable free tier, unlimited chat on the paid plan, short AI videos, or a gay- or trans-focused version of the app. In our ratings they’re separated by a tenth of a point.

Both are web-based, image-first AI companion apps that allow 18+ chat for adults, and both charge for media with a token or coin system. Here’s how they compare on everything that matters for an AI boyfriend.

Creating your boyfriend

Candy AI has a polished character builder with a dedicated Male option, where you shape his face, body and style before setting his personality. Its pre-made male roster is small (one 2025 review counted nine), so most people build their own.

OurDream AI also lets you create male companions, and reviewers praise its character creation. Its standout for boyfriend seekers is that there appear to be dedicated OurDream Gay and OurDream Trans versions, so male companions aren’t an afterthought.

Reviewers describe Candy AI’s memory as decent in the short to medium term, but not a standout compared with memory-first apps.

OurDream AI’s chat quality is praised by reviewers, but we found no specific testing of its long-term memory. Its practical advantage is unlimited messages on the paid plan.

Neither app is built for a long-term relationship where he remembers your life over months. If that’s what you want, look at Nomi AI instead.

This is the heart of the comparison, because visuals are why most people choose either app.

Candy AI’s image generation is among the best in the category, and because you designed his look, the images stay consistent. Images cost about 4 tokens each. Video is also available and uses tokens.

OurDream AI offers both images and short video generation, paid with DreamCoins. Video is a real draw, though reviewers report it can fail or be slow at peak times.

Voice

Candy AI supports voice messages, and reviews report voice calls are available (not confirmed officially at the time of writing). Both use tokens.

Candy AI’s subscription is cheaper: $12.99 a month (some reviews cite $13.99) versus $19.99 for OurDream, and its annual plan is also lower than OurDream’s $9.99-a-month annual rate, though sources disagree on Candy’s exact figure.

But look at what’s included. Candy AI Premium comes with about 100 tokens a month, and extra packs cost about $9.99 per 100. Reviewers report heavy users spending $25–60 a month. OurDream Premium includes unlimited messages and 1,000 DreamCoins a month, with extra packs from 1,000 coins for $9.99. We couldn’t verify how many coins each OurDream image or video costs, so a direct per-image comparison isn’t possible.

Privacy and safety

Candy AI is run by EverAI Limited in Malta, so it falls under EU GDPR rules. It launched in 2023, and we found no public breach. Reviewers note there’s no clearly published refund policy. Read is Candy AI safe?

OurDream AI is US-based, but sources differ on whether the operator is Dream Studio LLC or Dream Studio USA, Inc. It launched in 2025 (domain registered November 2024) and has no reported breaches.
