Nomi AI wins, narrowly. Its long-term memory is just as strong as Kindroid’s, it’s easier to get started with, and its annual plan is cheaper. Kindroid is the better pick if you want to design every detail of your boyfriend, from his backstory and key memories to how he speaks and sounds. These are the two best AI boyfriend apps for a long-term relationship, and in our ratings they’re a tenth of a point apart (9.1 for Nomi, 9.0 for Kindroid).

A note on fairness: Nomi has an affiliate program and Kindroid doesn’t. That doesn’t change the scores, and we’d happily recommend Kindroid to anyone it suits better.

The boyfriend experience

Before getting into features, it helps to understand how differently these apps feel.

Nomi is built to feel natural. You describe who he is, set the relationship as romantic, and then simply talk. Over time, his memory fills in the picture: he picks up on what matters to you and brings it back up later. It’s the closer of the two to “meeting someone and getting to know them”.

Kindroid is built to be authored. You decide who he is in detail before the first message: his history, the memories he holds onto, the way he phrases things, the sound of his voice. It’s the closer of the two to “writing the person you want, then bringing him to life”.

Neither approach is better in the abstract. It comes down to whether you’d rather discover him or design him.

Memory

Memory is the main reason anyone compares these two, because they lead the category.

Nomi’s memory is widely regarded as one of the best available, and it’s a core feature of the app. He remembers details from weeks ago and keeps a consistent personality without much input from you.

Kindroid’s memory is layered: long-term memory, journals and the backstory you write all shape his responses. It’s often ranked alongside Nomi as best in class. The difference is control: Kindroid gives you tools to steer what he remembers.

Winner: Draw. Nomi is better out of the box; Kindroid is better if you put in the work.

Customization

Kindroid is the most customizable AI boyfriend app we know of. You write his backstory, set key memories, tune his speaking style and choose his voice.

Nomi lets you create a companion of any gender, design his look and personality, and set the relationship as romantic. It’s thorough, but it doesn’t go as deep as Kindroid.

Winner: Kindroid.

Ease of use

Nomi is easier to pick up. You can create him and start chatting quickly, and the memory works without tuning.

Kindroid has many settings, which reviewers note can be overwhelming for beginners. It rewards patience, but it asks for more of it.

Voice, selfies and group chat

Both apps support voice messages, voice calls, AI-generated selfies and group chats with several companions. Kindroid also lets you pick his voice as part of customization, and some sources mention video calls, though we couldn’t confirm them.

Free tier

Nomi offers one Nomi with a daily message allotment and limited voice and image credits.

Kindroid’s free tier is thin, and sources disagree on its limits: reports mention one or two Kindroids, a daily message cap or a lighter model, around 5,000 lifetime audio characters, and few or no selfies.

Pricing

On monthly billing, Kindroid’s web plan ($13.99) is a little cheaper than Nomi Pro ($15.99). But Kindroid costs more in the app stores ($15.99 a month, or $14.99 per some sources), and its Ultra (+$24.99) and Max (+$59.99) add-ons make the top tiers expensive.

On annual billing, Nomi is clearly cheaper: $99.99 a year (about $8.33 a month) versus $139.99 a year (about $11.67 a month) for Kindroid on the web. Most people who stick with a companion app end up on an annual plan, so this is the comparison that matters most.

One aggregator also reports a $299.99 lifetime Nomi plan, which we couldn’t confirm officially.

Privacy and safety

Nomi is run by Glimpse AI, a small private company in Baltimore, Maryland. We found no reported breaches. Its permissive approach to adult content has drawn some press criticism.

Kindroid is run by Kindroid, Inc. We found no reported breaches, though we couldn’t verify the specifics of its data policy.

Platforms

Both are available on iOS, Android and the web. With Kindroid, subscribing on the web is cheaper than through the app stores.

Both apps let companions be any gender and support romantic relationships equally, so neither treats a male boyfriend as a niche option. That puts them ahead of girlfriend-first apps where the male roster is an afterthought. Choose between them on the same grounds as anyone else: Nomi for ease, Kindroid for control. If you start on one app and want to try the other, you can’t transfer a companion directly. What you can do:
