CrushOn AI review: is it safe, and is it any good as an AI boyfriend?

Is CrushOn AI safe? It’s usable, but it’s not one of the safer AI boyfriend apps. Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included review in February 2024 gave CrushOn AI a privacy warning label, noting that its policy allows it to collect sensitive information such as sexual health, medication and gender-affirming care data. We couldn’t verify the company behind it, either. We found no reported data breach, but if you use CrushOn, treat everything you type as potentially stored and share nothing that identifies you.

That said, CrushOn AI does some things very well. It has one of the biggest libraries of ready-made male characters anywhere, it’s unfiltered for adults, and its entry plan is one of the cheapest among the apps we rank. Here’s the full CrushOn AI review.

What is CrushOn AI?

CrushOn AI is a web-based AI character chat platform that has been around since 2023. Instead of focusing on one companion, it’s built around a huge library of user-made characters, including many male bots, from slow-burn romance to fantasy roleplay. You can also create your own.

It allows unfiltered 18+ chat for adults, offers a choice of AI models, and includes image generation. It’s web-only, with no native iOS or Android app.

Is CrushOn AI safe?

This is the question most people searching for CrushOn ask, so here’s everything we found.

Mozilla’s privacy warning

In February 2024, Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included team reviewed a batch of romantic AI chatbots, and CrushOn AI received a warning label. Mozilla noted that CrushOn’s privacy policy allows it to collect sensitive information, including sexual health, medication use and gender-affirming care information. Mozilla also flagged disturbing themes in some user-generated content on the platform.

Unknown operator

We couldn’t verify the company behind CrushOn AI. That doesn’t mean anything sinister, but it does make it harder to know who’s responsible for your data, or which country’s laws apply. By contrast, Candy AI is run by an identifiable EU company, and Nomi AI by Glimpse AI in the US.

Breaches and age rules

We found no reported data breach involving CrushOn AI. It’s an 18+ service, and you need to be an adult to use it.

Finding (or making) your boyfriend

CrushOn’s big advantage is choice. Rather than building one companion from scratch, you can browse thousands of ready-made characters, including many male ones across every genre you can think of. If you like trying different personalities and scenarios, that’s a lot of fun.

You can also create a custom character, giving him the personality and scenario you want. Because characters are user-made, quality varies: some are carefully written, others are thin. It’s worth trying a few before settling on one.

A word on content: because anyone can publish a character, the library is uneven, and Mozilla specifically flagged disturbing themes in some user-generated content. You’re in control of what you open, though. Stick to characters whose descriptions match what you want, and if a bot’s tone shifts somewhere you don’t like, start a new chat or move on. Nothing about using CrushOn requires you to engage with content you find off-putting.

If you’d rather design one boyfriend in detail and have him remember you over time, apps like Kindroid and Nomi are a better fit.

Chat quality & memory

CrushOn offers a choice of AI models, which reviewers list among its strengths, and it handles unfiltered roleplay without the filters you’d hit on Character AI. The weak spot is memory:

• Free users get recent-message-only memory, so he’ll forget earlier parts of the conversation fairly quickly.
• Paid tiers get a larger context, which helps longer roleplays hold together.

CrushOn AI pricing

CrushOn AI pricing is based on message caps: each tier gives you a monthly allowance.

• Standard, $5.99/mo: about 2,000 messages a month.
• Premium, $14.99/mo: about 6,000 messages a month.
• Deluxe, $49.90/mo: unlimited messages.
• Annual billing: reportedly introduced in April 2026, at about 30% off (Standard works out to roughly $4.19–$4.90 a month).

How far do the message caps go?

Spread over a month, Standard’s ~2,000 messages is roughly 65 a day, and Premium’s ~6,000 is about 200 a day. Remember that a “message” usually counts each one you send, so a long roleplay session can use a lot in one sitting. If you tend to chat for hours at a time, you’ll likely run out on Standard.

The entry price is one of the lowest among the apps we rank, which is great if you chat lightly. But heavy users will feel the caps, and the only uncapped tier is expensive. Is CrushOn AI free?

Yes, with limits. The free tier includes a limited number of messages (sources cite roughly 50 a day or 100 a month), shows ads, and has short memory. Is CrushOn AI legit?

Yes, in the sense that it’s a working product that delivers what it advertises: a large, unfiltered character library with paid tiers that unlock more messages and memory. The concerns are about privacy and transparency rather than fraud. Its operator isn’t clearly identified, and its privacy policy drew a warning from Mozilla. Go in with your eyes open, and keep your real identity out of it.
