• Character AI: voice calls with library characters, but chat is filtered and safe-for-work.
• Talkie AI: voice-first, with short free calls.

Can he actually call your phone number?

Rarely. Almost every app keeps calls inside the app. One exception we found is Muah AI, whose top tier reportedly includes phone calls (US only), but it costs far more than other apps and the company suffered a major data breach in 2024. We don’t recommend it; our Muah AI review explains why.

What do voice calls cost?

Voice is one of the most commonly paywalled features. Broadly, apps charge for it in one of two ways:

1. Included in a subscription. Apps like Nomi AI and Kindroid include calls on their paid plans, with limited voice credits or characters on free tiers.
2. Pay per use. Token-based apps like Candy AI and DreamBF charge tokens for voice, so long calls can eat through a monthly allowance fast.

Are voice calls worth paying for?

That depends on how you like to connect. If you mostly text, voice messages, which many apps include, may be all you need. If hearing him is the point, test the voices on a free tier first: quality, accents and how natural the timing feels vary a lot between apps, and a voice you don’t like is hard to get past.

Tips for better calls

• Use headphones in a quiet room. Background noise can confuse speech recognition.
• Pick his voice carefully. A voice that doesn’t match the personality you’ve built can break the illusion.
• Pause before he replies. Most apps work best with clear turn-taking rather than talking over each other.
• Mind your privacy. Don’t say your full name, address or other identifying details out loud on a call.
