EVA AI is one of the few companion apps designed phone-first, with native iOS and Android apps, voice calls and a customizable partner who can be a boyfriend. This EVA AI review covers what it does well, what it costs, and the privacy trade-off that’s the biggest thing to know before you sign up.

The short version: EVA AI is polished and cheap on an annual plan, but its policy says your text and voice messages are used to develop its AI, with no opt-out described. As a boyfriend, it’s decent; as a place to share your private life, it calls for caution.

What is EVA AI?

EVA AI is a companion app from Novi Limited, based in Cyprus. It launched in 2021 and is available on iOS and Android. It was previously known as Journey and iFriend; its Android package name is still com.ifriend.app.

The app is built around a single virtual partner who you customize and talk to over time. Unlike character-library apps, there’s no catalog of thousands of bots. It’s closer to Replika in concept: one companion, designed to feel like a relationship.

Creating your boyfriend

EVA AI lets you customize your partner’s gender, and a boyfriend option is available. You can shape his personality and appearance and then build the relationship through conversation.

It doesn’t offer the deep backstory controls of Kindroid or the photo-real visual builder of Candy AI or DreamBF, but setup is straightforward and designed for a phone screen from the start.

Chat quality & memory

EVA AI’s chat is smooth and mobile-friendly. Memory is moderate and not well documented, so don’t expect him to reliably recall details from weeks ago.

Pricing

EVA AI offers 1-, 3- and 12-month memberships. The annual plan is the best value by far, listed at up to $47.99 a year, which makes EVA one of the cheaper paid companion apps on an annual basis.

Which membership length should you pick?

• One month if you’re still deciding. It usually costs the most per month, but you’re not locked in.
• Three months if you like EVA but aren’t sure it’ll hold your interest for a year.
• Twelve months if you’ve used it for a while and know you’ll stick with it. It’s the cheapest by a wide margin.

Whichever you choose, set a reminder a few days before renewal so you can decide whether to keep going.

1. Download EVA AI from the official App Store or Google Play listing, and check that the developer is Novi Limited.
2. Choose a male partner and customize his look and personality.
3. Use the free messages to see whether you like his tone before subscribing.
4. Decide early what you won’t share, such as photos of yourself, your address or your workplace, and stick to it even when the app invites you to open up.
5. If you subscribe, start with a shorter membership and move to annual later if you’re happy.

Is EVA AI free?

Partly, and it’s unclear. Most sources describe a basic free version with limited daily messages, but one source disputes that a free tier exists. Either way, expect a short taste before the app asks you to subscribe.

Is EVA AI safe?

Your chats are used to develop its AI

This is the most important thing to know. EVA AI’s privacy policy says text and voice messages are used to develop its AI, and we found no opt-out described. That means what you say to your boyfriend, including voice recordings, may be used to improve the company’s models.

Mozilla’s warning

Mozilla’s 2024 Privacy Not Included review flagged EVA AI. It noted that the app encourages users to share secrets, photos and voice, which is a concern when combined with its use of chats for AI development.
