Botify AI is a character chat app with a huge library of user-made bots and a premium plan so cheap it’s hard to ignore. This Botify AI review looks at what you get, how well it works as an AI boyfriend, and the safety issues that have followed it, including its removal from the App Store in 2026.

The short version: Botify is very cheap and has plenty of male characters, but conversations are shallow, memory is weak, and its safety record gives us real pause. For most people, there are better places to spend even a small budget.

What is Botify AI?

Botify AI is made by Ex-Human Inc., a San Francisco company, and launched around 2022. It’s available on the web and Android. It was available on iOS until Apple removed it from the App Store in 2026.

The app hosts over a million user-made bots, from fictional and celebrity-inspired characters to original creations, and you can create your own. Ex-Human also licenses its technology to other companies, including Grindr.

Watch out for name confusion. Botify is also the name of an unrelated SEO software company, and Botsify is a separate chatbot-building tool. If you’re searching for the companion app, check that the developer is Ex-Human.

Creating your boyfriend

You can browse the library for male characters or create a custom bot with a name, personality and look. Creation is easy, and the library is big enough that you’ll find male characters in most genres.

What you won’t find is much depth. There’s no backstory journal or long-term memory system like Kindroid or Nomi AI, and no detailed visual builder like DreamBF.

Chat quality & memory

Reviewers describe Botify’s conversations as shallow, and its memory as weak. Memory is session-based rather than persistent: within one chat he’ll follow along, but he won’t reliably remember what you talked about last time.

At about $29.99 a year, Premium works out to roughly $2.50 a month. One source also lists an Ultra plan at $79.99 a year, but we’ve only seen that in a single source, so confirm it in the app before paying.

The 2025 MIT Technology Review report

In February 2025, MIT Technology Review published an investigation finding that Botify AI was hosting sexually charged bots based on underage celebrity characters. The report raised serious questions about how the platform moderated user-made characters.

We’re not going to go into detail about the content. What matters is that it showed weaknesses in moderation on a platform where anyone can create a bot.

The 2026 App Store removal

In 2026, Apple removed Botify AI from the App Store. Ex-Human responded by suing Apple, claiming around $500,000 in lost revenue. Botify remains on the web and Android.

The sources we reviewed don’t detail Apple’s specific reasons. But for users, the practical effect is clear: if you’re on iPhone, you can’t get the app from the App Store, and the platform’s future availability is uncertain.

Privacy

Because of the name confusion and the App Store removal, it’s worth double-checking what you download:

• On Android, check that the developer listed in Google Play is Ex-Human.
• On the web, use botify.ai directly rather than following ads or links from unfamiliar sites.
• On iPhone, there’s no official App Store version right now, so treat any app claiming to be Botify AI on iOS with suspicion.

• Use a separate email and don’t share identifying details.
• Report any bot that sexualizes minors; don’t engage with it.
